The Owners wished to expand a tight house on a tight lot in a tight neighborhood; the only way to go was up. To fit all of the space required under a new roof, the structure had to be steep, 14/12. The design resulted in a symmetric layout of dormers, with sharp gabled structures framing the space on the prominent corner, and shed dormers maximizing the office space beyond. Small existing appendages for the Dining Room and Sunroom break the rigid symmetry.

Inside, the small kitchen borrows space from the stair and central hall. The space on the second floor is defined by the rooflines. The final design belongs in the neighborhood. The white house has shed all of its earlier quirks of color and errant detail.
